225-acre scheme at Blackpool gets go ahead

A SUBSTANTIAL mixed-use urban expansion scheme on the outskirts of Blackpool has been given planning permission.

The 225-acre site at Whyndyke Farm on land between Mythop Road, Preston New Road and the M55, include 1,400 new homes, a primary school, two shopping areas, a pub, health centre and a community centre.

In addition, almost 50 acres has been allocated for industrial, storage or distribution use.

Architectural and planning consultancy Cassidy + Ashton successfully secured planning permission from Blackpool Council.

Straddling both Fylde and Blackpool Council boundaries, the development is expected to support the creation of several hundred jobs and will help to meet the national demand for extra school places, as well as deliver on the Government’s housebuilding agenda.

Alban Cassidy, chartered town planner and environmental consultant at Cassidy + Ashton, said: “We are absolutely delighted that permission has been granted for Whyndyke Farm.

“We have worked on this project for several years and have utilised skills and experience from across both our planning and architectural teams to develop a sustainable, mixed-use development that will help to meet the residential, retail and employment needs of the Fylde peninsula.”

Cassidy + Ashton secured the resolution on behalf of the Whyndyke Consortium.  It is expected that it will take around 15 years until the site is developed in full.
