LAW firm JMW Solicitors LLP has bolstered its employment team with the appointment of partner Liz Cotton.

Cotton joins from Liverpool firm Cassell Moore, where she was head of employment. Prior to that she worked in the North East for Square One Law and national firm Hill Dickinson, where she spent six years.

She specialises in all areas of employment law and regularly provides advice to clients on severance agreements, discrimination matters, contractual and policy documents, internal disciplinary and grievance hearings, redundancies and TUPE transfers. She has significant experience in the hospitality, retail, pharmaceutical, environmental and sporting sectors. Her clients include Online Gadgets and discount retailer TJ Morris.

INVESTMENT banking boutique Zeus Capital has made a trio of hires in its Manchester office.
 
Alistair Donnelly and Jordan Warburton have been appointed as executives in the firm’s corporate finance team, while Claire Duffy takes the role of research executive.
 
Donnelly joins Zeus Capital from KPMG, where he had spent five years. He spent 18 months in the accountancy firm’s corporate finance team, advising on large infrastructure-related projects across both public and private markets.

Warburton started his career as an intern at EY, and joined the firm full time in 2012.  He was executive in the transaction advisory services team specialising in corporate restructuring. Claire Duffy joins from Daniel Stewart, where she spent over eight years in the firm’s research team, in addition to previous roles at Numis and Charterhouse Securities.

RESIDENTIAL property management company urbanbubble has appointed Ian Chatburn as a director.

Chatburn joins from Hale-based Braemar Estates  where he worked for nine years, becoming a director in 2013. He has joined Manchester-based urbanbubble to help lead and develop its strategy and service offer to private sector rented schemes, as well as looking at other opportunities.

He said:  “I am delighted to join urbanbubble at a significant period for the growth of the business.  I am looking forward to working with (founder and MD) Michael Howard and the team to look at expanding our services and making sure we continually improve our commitment to the tenants and owners of the apartment blocks we already manage in Manchester, Salford and the North West.”

LAW firm Ward Hadaway believes a new partner appointment in Manchester will to help companies and organisations doing business in China.

It has hired Elaine Chan in its commercial litigation team. She has more than 14 years’ experience advising on commercial and insurance litigation cases, mainly in the manufacturing and retail sectors. She has particular expertise on product liability and recall, property damage claims, contract claims,  commercial insurance disputes, jurisdiction issues, subrogated recovery claims, tort claims and injunctions.

She said: “Business is very much a global game, as events this week have shown with the state visit of Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, and it is important for companies trading in other jurisdictions to have confidence in the partners they are dealing with and to have recourse to solutions if disputes arise.

“The increasing investment in the North West and across the UK by Far East businesses is very positive for the economy and is hopefully part of a long-term trend.”

CHORLEY-based waste container and recycling bank services specialist, Fairport Containers, has strengthened its head office team as it prepares to openm its third UK depot.

The family firm has appointed Ben Johnson, a nephew of company founder Andrew Porter, as sales representative.

The 28-year-old has four years’ experience of sales to overseas markets and is currently focused on generating new business to feed the company’s third UK depot, which is due to open in Bridgwater, Somerset.

Fairport Containers, based on Market Place, Adlington, has also appointed 29-year-old Melissa Gee as recycling bank co-ordinator.

Managing director, Steve Collinson, commented: “Melissa and Ben are a welcome addition to our team and we’re sure that their years of experience, as well as their friendly and approachable manner, will be a huge benefit to our customers.”

BARCLAYS Wealth and investment management has made a number of new hires in Liverpool and Manchester.

In Manchester, Liam Townson has joined the bank from Magic Circle law firm Slaughter & May, bringing his legal expertise to a new role as a private banker. He will support director James Bailey and fellow ex-lawyer Alison Probert. The Manchester team has also hired new wealth adviser, Simon Davies, who will join from RBS at the end of this month.

In addition to the new hires, the Manchester office will also be welcoming some new colleagues from other Barclays offices. Kenneth O’Donnell joins from the bank’s Glasgow office, and will be working as a private banker, while Annie Snowden has been with Barclays for eight years advising on mortgages, and comes to Manchester as a specialist mortgage adviser for high net worth clients.

In Liverpool, Amy Barlow has been hired as a Private Banker, joining Barclays from Wealth at Work. Amy, who also worked at Coutts for five years, will be responsible for a portfolio of clients that will include both individuals and trusts. Matt Latham has also been hired as a Private Banker in the team, rejoining Barclays after successfully completing his MBA.

WHR Property Consultancy has boosted its recently established property and asset management team following the appointment of Anna Main who joins as partner. 

Main will be working with Matt Beddow who, together with Sharon Booth and Stephen Pearson, joined WHR in April of this year to establish the company’s dedicated Property & Asset Management department.

The move come on the back of a number of recent instructions in Manchester city centre and across the region.
