£9m luxury homes and leisure scheme goes on public view

PLANS for a £9m mixed-use development including exclusive new homes, a new entertainment destination and a restaurant at Astley Point, near Wigan have gone on public view.

A public exhibition, organised by developer and investor Salcaul, was attended by 250 local people was organised by Salcaul showing off the proposal for Higher Green Lane, Astley.

If it goes ahead the development will replace Rendezvous Cabaret Club, which currently stands on the six-acre site.

Salcaul director Sean McCaul said: “We have the opportunity to create a very high quality development – a new focal point for Higher Green and Astley – at the site which is currently occupied by the Rendezvous Cabaret Club and other outbuildings.

“Our architects Cartwright and Gross have created exciting plans for the site which will set the new homes and leisure opportunities in stunning landscaped surroundings informed by the local heritage, history and countryside.”

The plans also include 30 exclusive new two bedroom apartments in five new buildings.

The public exhibition was held in advance of the submission of a formal planning application to Wigan Council.

The planning application will be submitted by the end of the year and work is expected to begin on the 18 month construction programme in summer 2016.

Salcaul is making a £9m investment into the development and envisages more than 70 new permanent jobs will be created at Astley Point.

The Environment Partnership has developed the landscape designs while planning advice is being provided by Euan Kellie Property Solutions.

Salcaul is a joint venture between Salboy and Redwaters and has been set up specifically to deliver Astley Point.  Salboy, is a company owned by Fred Done and Simon Ismail who develop schemes throughout the UK.

Ismail said: “This is the first project we have undertaken in Astley and we are really looking forward to producing a first class development that will provide much needed facilities for the local area.”
