Knights advises on £17m property deals

CHESTER-based professional services firm Knights has advised on a joint venture which has seen Henry Boot Developments acquire two substantial commercial properties in transactions worth a total of £17m.

One property current operates as accommodation for students and young professionals and the second will be converted from offices into additional housing for students, both in Bristol.

Alex Mason, corporate lawyer at Knights in Chester and Derek Callanan, partner at Knights, who both specialise in such joint venture transactions, handled the legal work associated with the purchase and investment.

A team of experts from across the firm’s construction, development, planning and tax teams helped to deliver a full legal service to the client.

Sally Wightman, managing partner for Knights in Chester said: “This was an interesting transaction which called on a number of the services that we offer at Knights, such as tax, construction, planning as well as property and corporate, in connection with purchase of the properties.”

Callanan said: “At Knights we pride ourselves on collaborating across our teams to ensure we deliver a cost effective and value added service to our clients – and were pleased to deliver this to the joint venture.”

The joint venture sees Henry Boot collaborating with The Markey Group, a provider of property development and investment services.

Tony Markey, director of The Markey Group and principal of the joint venture partner, worked closely with Knights and Henry Boot Developments to secure the deal.
