Social enterprise launches Gone for Good app

A NEW social enterprise has launched smartphone app that aims to help charities boost their coffers and save people the hassle of going to the tip to get rid of unwanted furniture.

Called Gone for Good, the app is being trialled in Greater Manchester from this month before being launched nationwide in the new year.

User  will be able to get rid of any unwanted belongings simply by uploading a photograph to Gone for Good. The app then finds local charities who will collect the items directly from homes. Users can upload any item, but it is particularly useful for people who want to get rid of bigger items of furniture – such as sofas – and do not want to pay costly disposal fees or take them to the dump.

Gone for Good has been launched by a group of North West entrepreneurs, including the founders of Reason Digital, a Manchester digital agency.

Managing director Mark Charnock said: “”The days of lugging bagful’s of unused possessions down to the tip or charity shop are over.

“Gone for Good is a quick and easy way of getting rid of unwanted belongings with a simple click of your smartphone. It not only helps charities to boost their income but prevents thousands of usable goods from being dumped in landfill every year. The beauty of Gone for Good is that it ensures that charities actively want your unwanted items and are happy to collect them from your front door at no cost.”

Two local Manchester charities, St Ann’s Hospice, Willow Wood Hospice, are taking part in the trial. Major charity partners include the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, DEBRA, Salvation Army and Sue Ryder.

The app is available in iOS and Android versions and can be downloaded free from the App Store and Google Play.
