Former bus depot to become £10.2m affordable homes community

NORTH West-based builder Construction Partnership UK and Stockport Homes will transform the site of a bus depot in the town into a new community of 113 affordable homes in a £10.2m project.

The work for Stockport Homes is the latest in a line of contracts sealed by CPUK’s new specialised social housing division CPUK Affordable Living.

Skelmersdale, West Lancashire-based CPUK’s new Civils & Remediation arm is also playing its role in the Charles Street development.

It will demolish the existing bus depot and associated warehouses on the site along with specialised remediation and re-engineering work to enable construction to begin.

The new development will deliver 79 houses and 34 apartments as well as communal areas for residents less than a mile from the centre of Stockport, delivering properties for social rent and also for affordable shared ownership.

The homes have been designed by Cheshire architect Howard and Seddon and work on site is scheduled for completion in November 2017.

David Wright, chairman of Stockport Homes Board, said: “This exciting new development of 113 new homes at Charles Street is a great opportunity for local people and a boost for housing stock in Stockport. The new homes are designed to be energy efficient and of excellent quality. November 2017 will certainly be an exciting time.”

CPUK Affordable Living is now delivering social housing projects across the North West, including an £8.5m affordable homes scheme in the heart of Morecambe.

The new division’s ambition is to build more than 300 new homes in the social housing sector every year.

The strategy sees Cheshire-based Lane End Developments (UK) source the land and deliver high quality developments for registered housing providers.

CPUK Affordable Living, which began operations earlier this year, constructs the schemes for the housing association, delivering projects on time and to budget.

CPUK managing director Steve Burke said: “Both our new divisions will be working to deliver this project, highlighting our ability to offer a full construction and development service to clients – from demolition and site remediation to building work.

“It is another major contract for CPUK Affordable Living which has really hit the ground running and is opening the door to more opportunities for our business.

“Our strategic alliance with Lane End Developments (UK) Limited, is already beginning to provide quality new-build solutions to several housing associations in the North West.

“The Stockport project highlights the strong offering CPUK now delivers in all aspects of construction.

“CPUK Civils & Remediation is also seeing its order book grow as it supports the existing work we carry out on challenging sites across the UK and also undertakes site remediation contracts in its own right.”

Both new divisions have added to CPUK’s current order book, which stands at more than £60m, with major projects in all sectors. The company is now working on projects across the North West and the Midlands as it looks to grow that order book further in the next 12 months.
