Poland and Cornwall routes for Liverpool

WIZZ Air, the low fare – low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe is to commence flights to the city of Katowice in the South West of Poland  from Liverpool John Lennon Airport in March.

The new flights between LJLA and Katowice will operate three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays starting on March 29. The latest destination becomes Wizz Air’s fifth route from Liverpool.

The news follows on from the airline’s last announcement two weeks ago that it would be introducing a twice weekly service from Liverpool to Hungary capital Budapest, and is the Airport’s third new route to be announced so far this year.

Wizz Air commenced operations from LJLA in late 2004 operating flights to the Polish capital of Warsaw and the Baltic coastal city of Gdansk, also in Poland. The airline increased its capacity on both these routes last year as well as commencing flights to Riga, the capital city of Latvia.

Paul Winfield, LJLA’s air service development manager said: “Wizz Air are one of Europe’s largest low cost airlines and have made significant progress over the past 12 months to grow their business at Liverpool and continue to take advantage of the opportunities to serve the North West market from here.”

Tamara Mshvenieradze, corporate communications manager at Wizz Air said: “We are delighted today to be adding a fifth WIZZ low fare service from Liverpool to Katowice, only two weeks after announcing the Liverpool – Budapest route.

“We hope that our services will be welcomed by our UK consumers and look forward to a continuous fruitful partnership with Liverpool Airport.”

Closer to home, passengers wanting a holiday in Cornwall will soon be able to acess the South West much more easily, following the announcement by Flybe it will start a weekly flight from LJLA to Newquay in May.

The weekly flights will depart from Liverpool at 6.30pm each Saturday from May 21 through to September 24.

With travel times to the South West coast normally in excess of five hours by car and even longer by train, the 75-minute flight time gives passengers from across the North West the opportunity to travel to one of the UK’s top holiday destinations in a fraction of the time.

This time last year, Flybe only operated services to the Isle of Man from Liverpool, however this latest commitment to their operations from LJLA will be Flybe’s fifth route, complementing the airline’s other services to the Isle of Man, Belfast City, Edinburgh and Amsterdam with onward worldwide connections at Schiphol Airport.
