Supermarket signs up for £18m sports village

SUPERMARKET giant Aldi is the latest business to sign up to the new £18m Mill Farm Sports Village currently taking shape in Wesham on the Fylde.
   
The fast-growing retailer will be launching at the site in June as part of an expansion programme which will see it open in a number of Lancashire locations including Chorley, Preston, Poulton-le-Fylde and Blackpool.
 
Aldi operations director James Knott said the Mill Farm site was an “exciting” opportunity for the international retailer.
 
He added: “The Mill Farm development will bring an unrivalled experience to the North West and we are excited to be a part of such an ambitious leisure village, which we feel will become a real hub for the local community.
 
“It also means our customers in Kirkham and Wesham won’t have to travel so far to benefit from our everyday low prices.”
 
The 13,000sq ft Kirkham store will be one of Aldi’s larger format stores. Recruitment for the Kirkham store is already underway.
 
Mill Farm owner David Haythornthwaite, who also founder and chairman of Blackpool-based veterinay products company Tangerine Group, is keen to hear from other businesses interested in being a part of the leisure development.

He said: “We still have spaces available – in prominent locations with easy access – and are talking now to parties about being part of Mill Farm’s future.
 
“We’re committed to the local area and are delighted to be welcoming Aldi to the development. We’ll be working closely together to ensure we provide an excellent facility for the local community and play an important role in the rejuvenation of the Fylde Coast for generations to come.”

At the heart of the Mill Farm Sports Village will be a new 6,000 capacity stadium for AFC Fylde alongside state- of- the-art  5 and 7-a-side pitches, a full size hockey pitch together with a 3G football pitch, petrol station and various restaurants and bars.  The development is due to launch in June.
