Jobs under threat at Iceland food site

MORE than 100 food manufacturing jobs could be lost at a plant in Gorton, east Manchester.

The site on Hammerstone Road is operated by Iceland Food Manufacturing, a subsidiary of the Deeside-based frozen food retailer.

The business has confirmed it is consulting with staff regarding a restructuring process, but has declined to comment on local reports that 150 employees making the company’s Slimming World range of products will be affected.

Iceland Food Manufacturing managing director Bev Mitchell said: “I can confirm that Iceland Manufacturing Limited has announced plans to restructure the organisation as a result of a review into its business operations.

“Regrettably, this will impact a number of employees at the site in Gorton, Manchester, as we have now entered a consultation period with them.”

Iceland, which has been battling a ferociously competitive retail market, bought the site in 2012 from Loxton Foods.
