LEGAL business DWF has appointed partner Alasdair Outhwaite from Eversheds to the firm’s national corporate practice in Manchester.

DWF has recently advised on several high-profile deals including advising Capita on the £14m acquisition of Paypoint plc’s online businesses and advising Wealth at Work in connection with Equistone Partners Europe’s buyout of the company from Palatine Private Equity.

Outhwaite has expertise in advising both public and private companies on acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and fund raisings, with a particular focus on advising on private equity transactions, including for clients Endless, North Edge, Phoenix, GCP, LDC and H2.
 
He said: “DWF’s corporate capability is underpinned by specialist sector knowledge that is allowing it to advise on increasingly high value transactions with both legal expertise and commercial insight.

MANCHESTER’S Mitchell Consulting Actuaries, an independent corporate pensions and actuarial firm, has announced the appointment of Neil Barton as business development manager.

Barton brings more than 25 years of extensive experience in the areas of pensions and employee benefits previously gained with companies such as Buck Consultants, a Xerox Company, Profund Solutions and TerranNua.  

He will now will be responsible for nationwide business development activities at Mitchell Consulting.

THE Manchester-based Co-op Food’s Property team has stepped up its recruitment drive, making three senior appointments to support its ambitious plans for growth in 2016 and beyond.
 
The new lead regional acquisitions managers – James Harrison, David McQuaker and Simon Finlay – join the Co-op’s 20-strong Acquisitions team, and will play a key role in delivering the business’s vision of opening around 100 new stores in 2016.

Harrison will be covering central England, McQuaker will lead on Scotland and the north of England and Finlay is to focus on the South.

Together they have around 55 years’ experience in the retail property sector and have worked for some of the UK’s leading retail businesses, including William Hill, Morrisons and Tesco.

Rob Bignold, head of Acquisitions and New Store Development, said:  “We are delighted that Simon, David and James have joined the team. Whilst other retailers are scaling back their expansion plans, the Co-op continues to expand to meet consumer demand.”

MANCHESTER-based app development company Mapway,has announced the appointment of Emma Allison as its new marketing manager.

Joining the consumer team which focuses on public transport apps such as the London Tube Map, Allison previously worked for recruitment and technology business group Brookfield Rose, where she headed up the content marketing team for the group’s 13 brands.

Mapway chief executive David James said: “It’s an exciting time for the business as we expand our focus on consumer apps so it’s great to have Emma on board. Her experience in marketing and PR will help drive us forward in creating greater brand awareness and increasing on our current nine million users worldwide.”

EUROPEAN law firm Fieldfisher has hired a new dispute resolution partner in the firm’s Manchester office.

James Lappin joins from DWF where, as an associate partner, he advised a wealth of corporates and individuals from a range of sectors.

Lappin has significant experience of alternative dispute resolution, and  advises on a wide range of issues, with a particular interest in professional negligence disputes..

Lappin, who was an assessor for DWF’s training and development programme and also sat on the firm’s recruitment panel, said: “Fieldfisher’s relatively recent move into the North West legal market provides a unique opportunity to promote the firm, and its values, to clients both new and existing.”

LAW firm Morecrofts has recruited human resources specialist Aileen Bromilow to its HR & Business division in response to a period of sustained growth.

Bromilow arrives at the Liverpool-headquartered firm following more than 10 years in positions at blue chip businesses across the UK, including the Co-Operative Group and Adecco.

Originally from Glasgow but now settled in Merseyside, she joins Morecrofts  following a period of significant expansion in this section of the firm, which has seen Morecrofts HR & Business’ client numbers and fee income rise by almost 70% in the past 18 months.

She said: “Having worked in-house for the majority of my career, I was attracted by the prospect of bringing my experience to bear on behalf of a range of clients across various different sectors.”
