Motorway delays after HGV overturns

COMMUTERS are being warned of severe delays this morning after a serious incident on the M6 overnight.

Police say there are miles of tailbacks after a lorry overturned on the northbound carriageway at Lymm Interchange.

The westbound exit slip road has been closed, whole two lanes of the main carriageway are blocked.

By 7.30am, queues stretched back from the crash site at junction 20 past junction 19 at Knutsford, causing long delays for commuters heading from Staffordshire towards Wigan and Lancashire.

Highways England advise motorists to expect 50 minute delays on the northbound carriageway until after 10am.

The agency said: “There are currently severe delays on the M6 northbound, due to two lanes being closed between J19 and J20 in order to recover an overturned lorry. The northbound exit slip at J20 is also closed.

“Road users are advised to plan ahead and allow plenty of extra time to complete their journeys if heading this way. “
