Clarke Energy powers ahead Down Under

CLARKE Energy, the distributed power generation specialist, has won a major contract in Australia.

The Knowsley company, which has 1,000 employees based in 17 countries, installs and maintains gas and diesel-fuelled power plants.

Its latest success in international markets is worth the lion’s share of a £37m ( Aus$75m) investment by the Northern Territory Government to upgrade its Owen Springs power station.

Clarke Energy, which is backed by private equity firn ECI and made record revenues of £233m in the year to October 2015, willsupply 10 Jenbacher gas engines made US engineering giant GE.

Clarke Energy’s successful engineering procurement and construction (EPC) team will supply and install the high-efficiency Jenbacher gas engines. This project, which is supporting an electricity cost-reduction drive, will provide an electrical output of more than 41 megawatts (MW), more than enough to power the town of Alice Springs, which will in turn help to increase the reliability and efficiency of power supplies and further reduce electricity costs.

Greg Columbus, managing director of Clarke Energy said: “GE’s proven, cost-effective gas engine technology is an excellent fit for Territory Generation’s needs in upgrading this facility.

“After a rigorous government tender process, we look forward to providing safe, on-time and on-cost project delivery for Territory Generation. In addition to the EPC on the project, we will also provide a long-term maintenance agreement for parts and service on the equipment.”

Territory Generation is the largest electricity producer in the Northern Territory, owning 582 MW of installed capacity and contracting an additional 40 MW from independent power producers for supply to its customers.
