Americans on verge of takeover of football club

EVERTON Football Club looks likely to be taken over by US investors John Jay Moores and Charles Noell within the next two weeks in a reported £200m.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the deal is imminent before the end of the month.

Talks between the Toffees and Moores, former owner of Major league Baseball franchise San Diego Padres, and his associate Noel have been ongoing since December.

The Echo claims that two potential China-based buyers are also in the running, but talks have reached the stage with the Americans that any other proposal would only be considered if a “deal-breaking late bump in the road occurred”.

The American duo have been carrying out due diligence on the club’s finances for the last six weeks and talks have taken place with Everton’s biggest shareholders – chairman Bill Kenwright, Robert Earl and Jon Woods.

Everton have refused to comment all through the period that rumours have been circulating.
