Far East opportunities for creative and tech firms

TRADE chiefs are inviting North West businesses in the creative, fashions and technology sectors, to join two missions to the Far East.

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is running trade missions to Hong Kong and Taiwan, in a bid to help the region up its game in fast-growing markets.

There are two simultaneous trade missions to Hong Kong. The first takes place from March 14 to 17  and is focussed on fashion. It will allow fashion companies to showcase their products to buyers and potential partners, and unlock business prospects in the wider region.

Those who attend will benefit from a programme of market briefings, meet-the-buyer showcases, networking and site visits.

From March 14 to 18, a separate mission is taking place which coincides with Filmart Hong Kong – Asia’s largest film and entertainment market, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

The Hong Kong International Film and TV Market hosts exhibits on the distribution, production and acquisition of film, TV programmes, animation, digital entertainment, games, production and post-production services, shooting locations, film commissions, film festivals, film insurance and film financing.

From March 21 to 25 UKTI will be in Taipei in Taiwan, and will visit the Smart City Summit & Expo Taipei – where the theme is ‘Building Smart Cities on the Internet of Things (IoT).’

Already attending is Manchester based FutureEverything. Drew Hemment, founder and dreative director of FutureEverything, said: “Our involvement in the mission to Singapore last year proved to be incredibly valuable, and with UKTI’s help we were able to successfully host a digital culture festival and one-day conference in the country in October reaching over 60,000 Singaporeans.

“For this mission, we want to further boost our presence in Asia and discover how FutureEverything can share its technology, innovation and creativity in Hong Kong and Taiwan, two of the world’s most exciting technology markets.”

Clive Drinkwater, North West director for UK Trade & Investment, added: “For the creative sector and technology mission to Hong Kong and Taiwan, we are particularly looking for companies with interests and capabilities in smart applications in transportation, energy saving and healthcare, especially in ICT infrastructure management, cloud solutions, app development, sensing/automation, data analytics and wireless communication.

“The fashion trade mission to Hong Kong is perfect for companies who work in clothing, accessories, and footwear designers and manufacturers who do not have agents in the country. There is huge demand for British expertise in these countries and this trip represents an excellent chance for companies to discover how, with UKTI help, they can export their products, services and intelligence to this region.”
