Popular Italian restaurant closed for major refurb

THE long-anticipated extension to the flagship Piccolino restaurant in Manchester city centre is now underway, parent company Individual Restaurants has said.

The restaurant on Clarence Street – a Manchester institution for the last 13 years – closed on Monday for a £1.3m refit, and will return in early April nearly double its original size.

Individual has acquired the vacant adjoining premises on the corner of Princess Steet and the new restaurant, Caffé Grande will be able to seat 200 guests and will also offer a 30 cover outside terrace, which overlooks Manchester Town Hall.

Individual Restaurants also said it will be opening a ew 250 cover flagship restaurant in Chester, under sister brand, The Restaurant Bar & Grill.

Steven Walker, founder of Individual Restaurants said: “The refurbishment of Piccolino, Clarence Street, Manchester, is on a grand scale. The new restaurant will seat 200 guests and brings a new meaning to ‘all day everyday dining’.

“The new look restaurant will have more of a feel of a Harrods style food-hall with the addition of a pizzeria, deli counter, gelato and pastry counter, theatre grill, meat, fish and shellfish counters, together with a cocktail bar and wine boutique.”

Ettore Cicchetti, who has been general manager since Piccolino first opened its doors in 2003 added: “I can’t wait to showcase our new look to our loyal followers.”
