Major build-to-rent scheme unveiled for prime city centre site

A SPECTACULAR build-to-rent property scheme next to the Lowry Hotel in Manchester has been revealed by Bruntwood and Select Property Group.

The second joint venture by the two companies will see buildings comprising 506 apartments in the prime city centre location on the banks of the River Irwell.

The scheme, which will operate under Select’s Affinity Living brand, is located on New Bailey Street on the riverside footpath that links Spinningfields to Blackfriars Street.

It sits adjacent to Bruntwood’s ‘Riverside’ development of commercial office and retail space.

The 33 storey building, Affinity Living Riverview, will house 318 apartments with the 16-storey building, Affinity Living Riverside with 188 apartments all designed for the millennial rental customer who chooses to live with friends and places great value on socialising.

Affinity Living buildings encourage interaction between residents and the local community by featuring a range of indoor and outdoor spaces and facilities that can be used by all, say bosses of the JV.

As well as large social lounge areas and private dining rooms, plans include further co-working spaces and a gym. Level 33 of the taller building will feature a roof garden, media room and private entertainment space with views over the city.

The project is the second joint venture between Bruntwood and Select, with their Circle Square scheme on the former BBC site already making great strides forward on Oxford Road.

Bruntwood property director Peter Crowther said: “We’re delighted to be working with Select Property Group again on this exciting project. The addition of high-quality residential apartments to our established office and retail campus at Riverside will create a truly vibrant, 24/7 mixed-use community.”

Select chief executive Mark Stott said: “With a shared vision for customer service excellence, we’re looking forward to working with Bruntwood once more to transform this fantastic riverside location into a residential community which redefines the standards for build-to-rent.”

Subject to planning approval, enabling works will commence on site in October 2016.
