High fives for enterprising accountants

TWO enterprising accountants who launched their own business after leaving an established regional firm, are celebrating their fifth anniversary.

Giles Mattocks and David Grindley launched Mattocks Grindley in St Helens and now employ five staff with plans to grow their team further in the next 12 months.

The pair, who met while working at Liverpool and Manchester firm Chadwick (now Mazars), say they have been liberated by the opportunity of running their own firm, and have built a successful business based on partner-led client service to family-owned and private firms and individuals.

Giles Mattocks, pictured on the left, said: “We have not looked back, it has been a great move and we have both enjoyed running our own firm.

“We have done some really interesting work – increasingly around shareholder valuations – and we are looking forward to more growth and recruiting and training more people.”

He said the pair had not been fazed by regulation and red tape, that can mattocks grindleysometimes prove to be an unwelcome hindrance for small business owner-managers.

“It’s the kind of thing we advise our clients on, so it has not been problematic.”

David Grindley added: “We have had good growth every year and 90% of this has come from recommendations and referrals from our existing clients. With the growth we have planned I expect we’ll be looking to take on another two staff in the next year or so.

“The plan for the next five years is very much for more of the same  – offering a good service to our clients and investing heavily in developing our people, all of whom are either qualified or are training to be qualified.”

Mattocks Grindley is based at the Enterprise Greenhouse, Salisbury Street, St Helens.
