Plans for new Central Village in city revealed

PLANS for a new “zone for enterprise” called Central Village unifying Manchester’s St John’s neighbourhood with the nearly-complete XYZ building in Spinningfields have been revealed.

They have been announced by Allied London chief executive Michael Ingall at the MIPIM world property event in Cannes.

Designed by architects SimpsonHaugh & Partners, the scheme will link The Bonded Warehouse in St John’s to the XYZ building.

A new building of 250,000sq ft will incorporate leisure facilities, workspace and homes.

Central Village will be home to a variety of users, similar to XYZ which is now fully let, including tenants NCC Group, Global radio, and Shoosmiths.

Ingall also said the plans would include new public realm – Hardman Square Boulevard, a timber-framed restaurant and garden space and the Oast House will be replaced by The Skirt, a mixed-use leisure facility.

The property chief who last week won the North West Business Masters Ambassador Award  also revealed revised plans for Old Granada Studio – currently used as a creative media hub branded Hello House.

Ingall said the studios will remain, but plans to build a glass corridor have been scrapped in favour of creating extra workspace, and it would be rebranded “Granada Work”.
