Export supremo in rallying call to businesses

BUSINESSES in the North West should focus on “massive untapped potential for future international growth”.

The director, North West of UKTI – the government body responsible for boosting British exporting potential – has said companies in the region export £25bn of goods annually to every corner of the glove.

Clive Drinkwater also said with GDP of almost £350bn, the economy of the Northern Powerhouse is equivalent to the 21st largest in the world.

“Manchester was the birthplace of the industrial revolution,” he said, ahead of an upcoming event to spearhead a drive by North West businesses to build international trade. “The abundance of expertise here is in high demand around the world, yet it has so much further to go in realising its potential. Only by working together will we transform the local economy and create a more prosperous future.”

Drinkwater is to be a speaker at a free-to-attend Going Global in 2016 breakfast seminar on Friday, May 6 at The King Street Townhouse Hotel, starting at 8.30am.

The event is being organisated by XYZ Events and is sponsored by Allied London.
