11-storey apartment block gets thumbs up

PLANS for an 11-storey apartment building with rooftop gardens, private terraces and balconies in Manchester’s Castlefield area have been given the green light.

DeTrafford Estates’ development City Gardens has been given the go-ahead to start the third phase of its scheme comprising 86 apartments, three commercial units and parking.

City Gardens will sit alongside two other DeTrafford developments, The Sky Gardens and The Roof Gardens, One Ellesmere Street and is the third phase of the developer’s wider master plan for the area which to date has seen permission for 319 boutique homes, a public square, courtyards and tree-lined walkways, together with 30,000sq ft of commercial space.

Accommodation will include single storey one and two bedroom apartments featuring floor to ceiling windows, with the top three floors comprising three bedroom triplex penthouses and private terraces.

Communal roof gardens on the eighth floor will include a sun terrace and picnic area, while the communal lobby will feature a vertical garden.

Gary Jackson, founder and director of DeTrafford Estates Group said: “This approval allows us to move forward with the third phase of our development featuring roof garden living.

“It marks another milestone in the delivery of the proposed master plan for the area and supports its continuing transformation.

“Our schemes, offering boutique homes with easy access to outside space, are designed for today’s city living and will contribute to an already great sense of community.”

Building work will be undertaken by Pochin’s and is scheduled to commence this summer with an anticipated 18 month build programme.

Work is already underway on phase one, The Roof Gardens, One Ellesmere Street, with all apartments and townhouses sold.
