City’s £40m shopping centre plan ditched

THE £40m plan for the refurbishment of Fishergate shopping centre in Preston due for scrutiny at the city council’s planning committee meeting today has been withdrawn.

The blueprint for the Fishergate Centre included a three-storey extension, a cinema and restaurant complex.

It included the replacement of the  redundant TJ with an assortment of other shops.
The project was scheduled to be on the agenda at a meeting on Thursday, where it had been recommended for refusal by planning officers.

Owner of the centre Benson Elliot unveiled its timetable for the regeneration of the Fishergate Shopping Centre in Preston in January.

The revitalisation programme was hailed as one of the largest private sector investments in the city centre for more than two decades, aimed at bringing the shopping centre into the 21st century.

Benson Elliot would have invested £25m  in delivering the new centre with a further £15m invested by occupiers such as Primark, TK Maxx and Vue.
