£100m promotion jackpot for football club

BURNLEY FC have secured promotion to the Premier League, an achievement which stands to net the club £100m.

The Turf Moor club made certain of a top-two finish in the Championship with a 1-0 win against Queens Park Rangers, taking their unbeaten run to 22 matches.

In doing so they confirmed their immediate return to the top-flight of English football and their share of a bumper broadcasting rights pot which will soar in the 2016-17 season.

Manager Sean Dyche, who retained job after relegation from the Premier League the season before last, said the club had now set it sights on lifting the Championship title trophy, having finished second to Leicester City – the newly-crowned Premier League champions – in the 2013-14 season.

He said: “We’ll be focused on Saturday [against Charlton]. We were runners-up last time don’t forget. So we want to win it. That will be the focus. We’ll go and win it, that’s our job. Let’s enjoy it now because this is another part of history for this club and history runs deep here.”

The on-field success follows a year of soaring revenue off the pitch, as recently reported by TheBusinessDesk.

For the year ended June 30, 2015 revenue for the Clarets was £78.77m compared to £19.63m for the 2013/14 football league season.
