US biotech firm relocates European HQ to city centre

INTERNATIONAL biotech company Proteintech is the latest tenant to sign up to 196 Deansgate in Manchester city centre.

The US-based organisation has chosen the property as its new European headquarters, relocating from Manchester Science Park on Oxford Road.

Proteintech has taken 4,631sq ft on the fourth floor of the building on a five-year lease with landlord CEG.
 
Founded in Chicago in 2002 as a start-up company, Proteintech manufactures and supplies antibodies to the medical and life science research community around the world.  

The news comes weeks after global digital agency McCann Manchester also announced that it was relocating its Manchester office to 196 Deansgate.

The building is undergoing a £2.3m refurbishment programme, which will deliver a new reception space and substantial refurbishment works to the first and second floors to bring them up to the same Grade A specification as the rest of the building.

Greg Lacey, investment manager at CEG, said: “Momentum is really starting to build at 196 Deansgate as we near the launch of the first and second floors in July.

“The businesses that have chosen to make this their home have not had to compromise on location, the standard of accommodation nor on the character of the building itself as 196 retains a wealth of stunning architectural features.

“With another deal in legals on the third floor we hope to announce further lettings prior to practical completion.”

Harry Skinner, senior surveyor at WHR, joint agents for the scheme with Canning O’Neill, said: “196’s contemporary design has appealed to a variety of sectors and attracted a broad tenant mix including Citypress, Adimus Investments and now Proteintech Europe.

“We are confident that we will secure further interest once the scaffolding is dismantled and Manchester is again able to see the building’s grand exterior.”
 
Situated at the junction of Deansgate and Quay Street, 196 Deansgate provides approximately 48,00 sq ft high quality office space over five upper floors with 17,784sq ft retail space on the ground floor.

Suites from 200sq ft to the entire two floors of 20,000sq ft are available at a quoting rental of £22.50 per sq ft.
