Football apprentice scheme man on fraud charges

A MAN who recruited young people for a football-based apprenticeship scheme has appeared in Westminster Magistrates’ Court alongside five others following a Serious Fraud Office charged with fraud offences.

Jack William Harper, aged 29, from Southport, was a recruiter of learners for Luis Michael Training Ltd, which allegedly claimed payments from several further education colleges for training and education services it did not provide.

It is alleged that a separate but linked attempt to defraud a Further Education college was committed by Harper, through a company called FootballQualifications.com.

The charges against Harper are as follows: Conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation, fraud and using a false instrument, contrary to section three of the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981.

The alleged conduct took place between 2009 and 2011.

The six defendants will make their next appearance at Southwark Crown Court on June1 2016.

The other defendants are: Mark Aizlewood, 56, from Aberdare, Wales, Christopher Paul Martin 51, from Newbury,  Keith Anthony Williams, 43, from Anglesey, Wales, Paul Anthony Sugrue,55, from Cardiff, Wales, and Steven Paul Gooding, 52, from Bridgwater.
