DLA Piper to cut 200 jobs

LAW firm DLA Piper has announced it will be making cuts to business services roles across its UK operations.

Around 200 jobs are to be cut as part of the restructuring project, making up 18% of its total business support services.

In Yorkshire, 85 jobs are included in the cuts. 33 jobs in the North West and 23 in Birmingham are also involved in the consultation.

It will be reducing its finance, human resources, marketing, business development, and secretarial teams.

The firm said it was concentrating that division of the business in its Warsaw centre in Poland.

DLA chief operating officer Andrew Darwin said in a statement: “The firm has grown rapidly over the past decade and many of our systems and processes reflect the history of the firm rather than its future.

“It is a key part of our strategy to modernize our business service functions in order to operate more effectively on a global basis and improve the quality, consistency and efficiency of the way we deliver our services to our clients.

“Until the consultation is completed, we will not be making any final decisions, and we will be actively supporting our people during this process.”

The consultation will start on 31 May 2016 to be completed by the end of July.

DLA Piper can trace its roots back to Leeds from its beginnings in 1764. Since then it has undertaken many mergers to become DLA Piper as it is today, an international law firm with presence in 30 countries.
