NORTHEDGE Capital, the private equity firm focused on investing in the North of England, has appointed PwC dealmaker Dan Matkin as investment manager.

Matkin spent eight years working at PwC within the company’s corporate finance and assurance divisions.

In his role as assistant director, he led a number of private equity transactions and during the last year oversaw the £150m sale of Poundworld to TPG Capital, the £52m sale of Nexus Rental to Bowmark Capital and the sale of energy solutions provider Mark Group to NYSE-listed Sun Edison.

Educated at Newcastle University and a qualified chartered accountant, Matkin will work alongside partner Ray Stenton to help drive NorthEdge’s new business efforts following the recent closure of its £300m Fund II.

LAW firm Pannone Corporate has appointed one of the region’s most experienced private equity and M&A lawyers as a partner to its corporate team.

Tim Hamilton has joined Pannone Corporate from gunnercooke where he was also a partner. His previous roles include five years as Managing Partner at Andersen Legal before spending 12 years at Addleshaw Goddard where he was a corporate partner and then head of clients and markets.

Hamilton has a wealth of private equity and M&A experience having spent more than 25 years in the Manchester market advising private equity houses and some of the region’s top public and private companies on major transactions.

He said: “After many years in the industry, I know that I’m at my best working with and alongside entrepreneurs. Pannone Corporate is an entrepreneurial law firm with a clear vision and an obvious choice for dynamic and fast-growing clients with ambitious aspirations. DAVIS Blank Furniss – the Manchester and Glossop based law firm – has promoted Anita Shepherd to partner in its Family team.

Shepherd joined the firm in 2012 and works out of the Manchester and Glossop offices.
She handles all aspects of family law and is also a resolution advanced accredited specialist with a focus on domestic abuse and advanced financial provision.

Kate Oldfield – managing partner – said: “Since arriving at Davis Blank Furniss, Anita has made a huge impact; her drive, enthusiasm, rapport and knowledge of the law have all helped to grow the team so her promotion is much deserved and is a clear reflection of her talent.”

Shepherd added: “The last four years have been a period of growth for me as Kate and the partnership have allowed me to grow my work in my own way. That level of autonomy has really inspired me. Becoming a partner is – of course – a milestone in my career, but my focus is now on adding more value to the business and our clients.”

The firm has also promoted Jennifer Smith to associate in the property team and Kirsty Morbey to associate in the family team. Edward Moss has been appointed as a clinical negligence and professional negligence solicitor following the successful completion of his training contract.

BARBARA Corbett has joined the growing Bridging Finance Solutions team, based at Wallasey on the Wirral, as finance controller.

With a strong and extensive background in the financial management sector, Corbett will take responsibility for the finance operation at BFS.

Formerly a management accountant at an international construction consulting firm and prior to that a finance manager of a manufacturing company, Barbara brings a wealth of experience to her new role.

She said: “I’m really excited about my new position. I was keen to work with Bridging Finance Solutions at they are an exciting growing company. The bridging sector is also an area that’s new to me but one which is really interesting and I’m sure will be challenging, presenting lots of new opportunities.”

WARRINGTON-based Matrix Networks, the independent installer of utility infrastructure, has recently appointed Paul Beck as its new sales director to drive the businesses next phase of growth.

Beck has joined the business following eight years at Mark Group both in the UK and Australia. Having held a number of senior positions at Mark Group including sales and marketing director and director of commercial sales, he joins Matrix Networks with a clear vision for its future.

“I’m extremely excited to join Matrix Networks at a time where the business has established a strong reputation in the market and looks to the future with a great deal of potential,” he said. “My brief is to drive growth across existing relationships and further development of the businesses activities in new territories across the UK.”

Founded in 2006, the business has developed in to a leading independent utility infrastructure installer and works with some of the UK’s largest construction businesses to provide multi utility connections across a range of industries.
