New Dockyard alehouse coming soon

THE team behind alehouse the Dockyard are to open a third site on First Street in Manchester, which will also house a microbrewery.

The Dockyard first opened in Media City in 2013, with a second site following at Spinningfields in 2015. This third site, called Gasworks Brewbar after the old Gaythorn Gasworks site it was built on, will open in August.

The 5,550 sq ft venue will include its very own six barrel working micro-brewery, where an assembled team of brewers will be concocting and refining their very own recipes for drinkers to watch and taste and joining in with the brewing process.

In addition to their own brews they will offer more generic lagers and ales and will continue to champion their favourite small local brewers such as Brightside and Shindigger, with those brewers coming in house to brew on site.

The range of beers, specialists cask ales and craft ales will be accompanied by a freshly prepared menu, including burgers, pies and sandwiches.

Owner Steve Pilling, who is also behind Damson in Heaton Moor and MediaCity, Guilty by Association and Liquorice bar, said the venue’s industrial design is sympathetic to the history and provenance of the site.

He said: “With our passion for the raw ingredient and the knowledge and understanding of beer that we’ve built up since opening our first Dockyard, it really felt like a natural progression to start brewing our own.

“When I viewed the First Street site a year ago and started to understand the scope of the development, I knew we had found the right spot to create something unique and as yet unseen in Manchester.”

When the alehouse opens, it will join Indian Tiffin Room, Pizza Express and arts centre HOME.
