Refurb for Stirk House Hotel

STIRK House Hotel in the Ribble Valley is completing a series of refurbishment works as part of its business growth ambitions.

The original Stirk House was built in 1635 using stonework from the former Sawley Abbey, dismantled a century earlier during Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries. The family home became a hotel in 1933.

It comprises 33 bedrooms offering a combination of suites, manor rooms, classic doubles and twins all of which are being upgraded. Other amenities include a restuarant, a leisure club, a champagne patio, a lounge, a private dining area, a large ballroom and a conservatory all situated within the hotel’s 22 acres.

The hotel’s 70 cover restaurant was refurbished in January with booth style seating and an open fire.

Helen Kay, director of Stirk House Hotel, said: “Over recent months we have added the new restaurant, outdoor parasols and heaters, and are working at pace through the bedrooms to upgrade/refurbish and enhance. These works we are continuing within the hallways and corridors, creating chic, boutique style rooms, maximising on the far reaching views across the beautiful countryside.

“The new lounge bar is currently being fitted, and this will be followed by a complete refurbishment of the main lounge, reception and public areas. Again this will modernise and improve the overall feel of the building, and will welcome all guests into the ‘new’ Stirk House.

“We continue to plan work in the large ballroom which can seat up to 250 guests, and will shortly be introducing a lounge area and specific bar seating area so the facilities available to people hosting any variety of event are all at hand within the same room as their event – something that is unique to Stirk House within the local area.”

She said further into the future they will review options within the site and hope to build the business further with additional bedrooms, enhancing and redefining the leisure club, and even exploring options within the grounds themselves.

The refurbishment works have been funded by NatWest. Relationship manager Ian Brown at Natwest said: “Helen and the management team have formulated a sound business plan around refurbishments which will lead to the hotel’s long-term sustainability.”
