Buildings among RIBA elite
MANCHESTER’S £61m National Graphene Institute is on three North West buildings among 46 of the UK’s “best buildings”.
The institute has been honoured alongside Liverpool’s £237m grass-roofed Alder Hey children’s hospital and the waterfront Wirral Metropolitan College, which has undergone a £21m refurbishment, in the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
The 46 now go forward to be whittles down to a shortlist of six which are in line for RIBA’s Stirling prize later this year.
In a departure from the 2015 emphasis on housing, almost a quarter of this year’s winners are made up of university and college buildings.
