Euro 2016 fever on the pitch continues – despite Brexit

AND so the Euro 2016 party in France goes on with all three home countries and our neighbours, the Republic of Ireland into the knockout stages of what is hotting up to be one of the best tournaments in history.

The day after the UK voted to exit the European Union, Euro fever on the football pitch is continuing unabated.

How lucky were England after allowing Wales to top their group to wind up facing minnows Iceland on Monday evening (kick off 8pm)?

The way Iceland have played so far means an England victory is not a foregone conclusion.

The winner of that match will face whoever wins the match between hosts France and Ireland (kick-off Sunday, 2pm). What a performance by the men in green, by the way, to grab victory against Italy with a goal five minutes from time, to go through in third place in their group, backed by their incredible army of fans.

Before that of course, there is what can only be described as the UK derby – Wales v Northern Ireland on Saturday evening (kick-off 5pm).

Once again, the fans of these Celtic nations have really done their countries proud, while their teams populated by journeymen players have performed above themselves. Think on England!
