Winding up petition served on Cheshire interiors firm

MKM Building Supplies has brought a winding up petition against a Macclesfield interiors firm.

Macclesfield-based Edgewood B&I, part of the Edgewood Interiors group of Priory Lane, has reportedly not paid debts owed to the £250m-turnover building supplies firm.

The petition, unless resolved beforehand, will be heard in Leeds on 12 July.

Between the 2010-15 period, three separate compulsory strike off actions were launched in regards to Edgewood Interiors, each time discontinued.

A spokesman from MKM Building Supplies said: “Edgewood B&I Ltd has a significant outstanding debt with MKM Building Supplies, running into five figures, relating to goods supplied between August and October last year.

“To ensure we treated the company fairly, we negotiated a settlement enabling Edgewood B&I to pay the outstanding balance in instalments, but unfortunately this was not successful. Therefore, we were left with no choice but to submit a winding up petition.

“Whereas it saddens us to have to take this action, we have always been clear in our intentions. We have been in contact with Edgewood B&I throughout the process and have given the company every opportunity to settle the matter.”

Hull-based MKM recently surpassed the £250m turnover mark, adding £100m to its top line in three years.

Its strong sales growth was matched by its rising pre-tax profits, which grew 46% to £10.8m having been around £2m in its 2012 and 2013 financial years

Edgewood, which undertakes interior builds and decoration services, has offices in Macclesfield, Northwich and Manchester.
