Topping out at luxury block in city

SELECT Property Group has marked the topping out milestone of CitySuites, its 17 storey, luxury serviced apartment development on Chapel Street in Salford.

Featuring 244 apartments in a range of studio, one and two-bedroom designs, CitySuites is a new concept that Select Property and Salford City Council say will reinvent the serviced apartment market when it opens in January 2017.

A fusion of a hotel and apartment, it features the luxury elements of a hotel, such as first class leisure facilities, valet and a concierge service, with the space, privacy and comfort of an apartment.

It will be uniquely placed to meet the needs of the region’s growing number of corporate visitors when it opens. Guests will be able to choose to stay on a short-term basis or settle in the city for longer, with up to 12-month stay options.

Speaking at the topping out ceremony, which marks the completion of the building’s core structure, Select’s chief development officer Ken Knott said: “CitySuites will be unlike anything else in the city.

“With current accommodation options, the business traveller always faces a compromise. After any length of time even the finest hotel rooms can feel cold, claustrophobic and impractical, while traditional serviced apartments are often bland, dated and limited to the periphery of a city. With CitySuites there is no compromise.

“Today marks a huge milestone for our CitySuites brand and indeed the Greengate area and as I look out at the view it makes me incredibly excited. With just under six months until we open the doors, the building is already looking fantastic and we’re looking forward to its completion.”

In the heart of the Greengate regeneration area, CitySuites offers an unrivalled location, a stone’s throw from some of Manchester’s best shops, bars and restaurants.

Elected Salford city Mayor Paul Dennett added:  “CitySuites is an important addition to the region’s skyline which will, not only be an attraction itself, but also provide an offer which supports inward investment from UK and global businesses across the city.

“The scheme contributes to the continuing regeneration of Greengate, the Medieval heart of the city, where new residential, commercial and leisure developments are converging to create an exciting new city centre neighbourhood.”

Also in attendance were Salford councillors Derek Antrobus and Ray Mashiter.

Also on site to mark the occasion was Mark Nicholson, Business Unit Director of Carillion, Select’s construction partner on the scheme. He said:  “We are delighted to have reached this landmark stage of the CitySuites project, which will offer a new concept in accommodation in the Greengate area.”
