Lancashire town opens new heritage trail

TAKE a visit to Penwortham in Lancashire and step back in time to discover the secret history of the town.

Launching on Monday August 1, the new heritage trail invites visitors to discover 12 of Penwortham’s hidden history sites and to explore what life in their town used to be like.

Working with local historian Elizabeth Basquill, South Ribble Borough Council has produced a heritage trail leaflet including a map and descriptions to guide people around the trail. The leaflet will be available at the Civic Centre, West Paddock, Leyland.

The walk takes approximately one and a half hours to complete and is moderate difficulty, mostly on paths with some steps along the way. It is suitable for all ages and capabilities.

It was created after a number of residents expressed an interest in learning more about their town’s history at the Penwortham My Neighbourhood Forum.

Councillor Keith Martin, chair of the My Penwortham Neighbourhood Forum, said: “It’s a perfect example of residents working together with the council to improve their local area and it’s fantastic to see the heritage trail come to fruition.

“The launch event is a brilliant way for residents to experience the walk together and it’ll be fantastic to see people supporting the trail by coming along.”
