Purrrrfect location for cat café

THE first ever “cat café” has been launched in Manchester’s trendy Northern Quarter.

The first of its kind the venue offers customers time to enjoy the company of the café’s 10 cats, alongside coffee and cake.

Commercial property advisers Bilfinger GVA, Yorkshire, successfully acquired the unit on High Street  on behalf of Cat Café Manchester.

The Cat Café concept originated in Japan and became popular in the 1980s, providing busy people living in high rise apartment blocks with the opportunity to enjoy the company of an animal. The idea has now spread to Europe with the first UK based cat café opening in London in 2014.

James Ratcliffe within Bilfinger GVA’s Retail Team secured the premises and with the help of Hayley Knight in the Planning Team, Bilfinger GVA successfully negotiated change of use with Manchester City Council.

James Ratcliffe, Senior Surveyor at Bilfinger GVA said: “Cat Café Manchester has great potential for growth and ambitious plans to expand. We are delighted to have supported the business in launching its first outlet and we are pleased to be advising on further units in Liverpool and Leeds. We look forward to continuing our work with The Cat Café team as they look to capitalise on the new cat café trend in the UK.”

Manchester law firm Kuits has advised on the lease of one of the city’s most talked about new venues, the Cat Café.

The first of its kind the venue offers customers time to enjoy the company of the café’s ten cats, alongside coffee and cake.

Kuits commercial property partner Martin Davies and solicitor Kate Kurtz provided legal and commercial advice to owner Richard Goodall on the letting and re-fit of the space at 103 High Street, formerly the Richard Goodall Gallery, which has now moved to Thomas Street.

Davies said: “The Cat Café has received huge interest from the Greater Manchester community in the month since its launch, so it’s been great to be involved with such a high-profile let-out.

“We’re pleased to have been able to provide a legal service offering for Richard in his new venture, and look forward to paying both the gallery and café a visit in the near future.”
