Foodstore gets green light from town council

PLANS for a 31,000 sq ft foodstore in St Helens on Merseyside have been approved by the town’s council.

Acting on behalf of Preston-based Maple Grove Developments, HOW Planning advised on the edge of town centre development.

The brownfield site, which sits between Atlas Street and Parr Street currently houses a number of old industrial units and car parking with vacant scrubland to the north.

HOW has worked with The Harris Partnership to create an attractive new retail opportunity which will provide a complimentary main food shop to the existing Fingerpost Local Centre in what is a predominantly residential area.

Keith Jones, associate at HOW Planning, said: “Maple Grove Developments is committed to delivering a well thought out, contemporary and strategic retail development, which will significantly enhance an outdated site and strengthen connectivity to the neighbouring area.”

The new development will transform an underused site which currently brings no benefit to St Helens and the local community, says HOW.
