Uber aiming to move into food delivery in cities

GROUND-breaking taxi app Uber is set to launch a food delivery service in Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds in direct competition to rival Deliveroo.

Uber has placed advers for riders in three cities in preparation for the expansion of its UberEATS operation.

The new service was launched in the US last year, and was recently also established in London.

Uber, recently valued at £50.5bn, is forecast to grow its food delivery service after success of its taxi app, which is downloaded by about 30,000 people a week in London.

The American tech giant is also behind plans to launch driverless taxis in the States within the next few weeks. Its boss Travis Kalanick is working with car makers and plans a driverless fleet by 2030.
