Building company wins £5.4m regeneration contract

NORTH West property and construction specialist Pochin’s has won a £5.4m contract to complete a regeneration project in Liverpool for discount retailer T J Morris.

T J Morris, which owns fast-growing retail brand Home Bargains, has asked Pochin’s to convert the former 115,000sq ft Carcraft hypermarket for commercial use.

The site, which is directly to the east of T J Morris’ existing Home Bargains headquarters in Liverpool, will see Pochin’s build a new training centre and two bulky goods retail units. The existing training centre will also be converted into offices.

Due for completion in April 2017, the project involves the collaboration of Pochin’s, planners Liverpool City Council, and AJA Architects, which is also involved in the existing £10.4m project to extend T J Morris’ presence at Axis Business Park in Liverpool.

The news follows confirmation that Pochin’s will build a 90,000sq ft depot for Scottish Power at its flagship business park, Midpoint 18, taking its current on-site project value to £76m.

Pochin’s chief executive Jim Nicholson said: “We are extremely pleased to be working with T J Morris again on this new development that will no doubt play a vital part in the continued growth of Home Bargains.

“Pochin’s involvement demonstrates our continued commitment to working with some of the region’s most reputable businesses and our desire to continue building good relationships with the people we work with.”

Joe Morris, operations director of T J Morris, added: “The proximity of the former Carcraft site to our headquarters makes it a prime location to significantly expand our presence and enhance our facilities for staff training and retail purposes.

“Given the quality of our existing relationship, and their knowledge of the site, Pochin’s were the obvious partner for us. We’re looking forward to seeing the development up and running in the near future.”
