Feast in store for lovers of fine cuisine

FOODIES far and wide will journey to Manchester once again to satiate their hunger for both street food and haute-cuisine.

Between Thursday September 29 and Monday October 10, Manchester Food and Drink Festival (MFDF) will take over the city with an explosion of food stalls, secret dining experiences and Fringe events.

In the festival’s 18th year, key players include Bakchich, Tampopo, Hip Hop Chip Shop and CAU, offering food inspired by destinations from Lebanon to Buenos Aires at their stalls.

High street and fine-dining establishments, including Pho, Marco’s New York Italian and James Martin Manchester, will offer festival menus to entice those hoping for a sample of the city’s thriving food and drink scene.

Live demonstrations will be performed by The Great British Bake-Off winner, Nadiya Hussain, and Simon Shaw of El Gato Negro- a MFDF awards 2016 shortlister.

Several ‘Hidden Banquets’ will pop up at key landmarks, including Old Granada Studios on Quay Street and the redeveloped London Road Fire Station.

Takeaway delivery company Deliveroo will host the third of these banquets at the studios, adopting a technology theme with food from some of the best restaurants in Manchester.

The evening will also feature a TED talk-style commentary by local historian Jonathon Schofield, who will discuss Manchester’s contribution to technology, including its status as the birthplace of the computer.

Food will be delivered to the venue by Deliveroo drivers and laid out in restaurant-banqueting style.

Two Spanish trails will start from Instituto Cervantes on Deansgate and visit restaurants around that area, including Evuna, El Rincon, Tapeo, Iberica and La Bandera, where each group will receive a drink and tapas in each.

The festival will highlight various themes that affect the food and drink industry in the Manchester region.

As always, the Festival Hub on Albert Square will be at the heart of the event, with plenty of drinking establishments opening up for gin-lovers and beer-guzzlers alike.

Winners of the MFDF awards 2016 will be announced on Monday, October 10 at The Palace Hotel, Oxford Street.
