Exporting roadshow bidding to boost overseas trade

A CAMPAIGN to boost exporting is touring the North West throughout this week to help businesses start or improve their exporting of goods and services internationally.

Organised by the Department of International Trade (DIT), the Exporting is GREAT national tour will visit Salford, Winsford, Warrington, Leyland and Aintree.

The Export Hub will host workshops and one-to-one meetings where business owners can meet with advisers for information about attracting customers from oversees.

Clive Drinkwater, DIT’s North West regional director said: “Exporting businesses are more flexible, more agile and more resilient.

“We aim to inspire SMEs by showing them the volume of export opportunities already available and identified by ‘Exporting is GREAT’.

“These events are an ideal opportunity for companies to learn about the benefits, the opportunities and the support available.

“Working with our partners in the North West, we are determined to help local companies succeed internationally.”

Despite conflicting reports questioning SMEs confidence following Brexit, there are more than 1800 worldwide export opportunities for UK businesses.

The first hub in the region will be at MediaCity UK at Salford Quays today, after which it will move to Winsford Industrial Estate, on Road One, Winsford.

In Winsford, the tour will focus specifically on China while representatives from the Royal Bank of Scotland will advise attendees on how to secure payment for services.

The following day the hub moves across to Warrington’s Victoria Park where the focus will be on India as a business-friendly country and experts will discuss their growing demand for British goods.

The penultimate stop of the North West tour sees a visit to Lancashire Business Park in Leyland on Thursday September 29, where the spotlight will be on the fashion industry, the key overseas markets for this sector and the best route into them for exporters.

The final stop will be Aintree Racecourse in Merseyside on Friday September 30.

Each hub stops will include a First Time Exporters round-table and sessions on how to use the ‘Export Savvy’ online learning portal, which helps exporters track their international growth.
