Administrators at engineering firm make 27 redundancies

A CARLISLE engineering firm which went into administration 10 days ago has announced that 27 of its 32 staff have been made redundant.

157-year-old firm Mitchell Dryers buckled under the pressure of an ongoing pension deficit and slow order book.

Joint administrator Mike Kienlen, of Armstrong Watson, said: “Although talks with parties interested in purchasing the business continue and a number of potential future orders are being discussed with customers, the lack of current work in the factory means that we regrettably need to make these redundancies.

“We are retaining five members of the team at this stage to ensure that current orders placed are completed on schedule. We are grateful for the support of those customers who have retained the Company’s services in Administration.

“We would also take this opportunity to request that anybody interested in acquiring the business please contact Darcie Rae on 01228 690179.”
