Rogan leaving The French

ACCLAIMED chef Simon Rogan is moving on from his restaurant The French at Manchester’s Midland Hotel.

The king of the kitchen is leaving three years into a five-year contract. The move follows the failure of The French or any other Manchester city centre eatery to win a Michelin star in the 2017 guide.

The French was the last city centre restaurant to be awarded a coveted star in 1974.

Rogan, the proprietor of Umbel restaurant group, told The Caterer: “Our work with the Midland has been a great opportunity and we’ve built something very special with the French and Mr Cooper’s.

“It’s now time to concentrate our efforts on developing and growing our businesses in Cartmel with L’Enclume and Rogan & Co (in Cumbria) as well as ensuring that Fera at Claridge’s (London) continues to be operated to our high standards.”

Head chef Adam Reid will now be in charge. He will lead the newly-named Adam Reid at the French from November 1.

Reid reached the final of BBC TV’s Great British Menu recently.

Reid told The Caterer he now has ‘a huge opportunity’ to showcase his own cooking style.

“I want to make Manchester proud and ensure that the French will continue to evolve and impress its local and national customers,” he added.
