Plans approved for St John’s tower in £1.3bn scheme

PLANS have been approved for the 553ft tall building which will tower over Allied London’s £1.3bn St John’s Place development in Manchester.

The building will be only a few feet shorter than the Beetham Tower on Deansgate.

There will be 18 lower stories operated by Nadler Hotel with private rented flats above.

Also approved  were plans for a neighbouring eight-storey aparthotel, an 18-storey residential building and a four-storey residential building.
St  John’s Place is due for completion at the end of 2018.

The wider St John’s neighbourhood will eventually total 3,000 homes, 600,00 sq ft of commercial space and a mix of cultural venues including the £110m Factory arts centre.

As advisors on planning were Deloitte Real Estate.

Assistant director Laura Feekins said: “As one of the first phases of the St. John’s development, this decision marks an exciting step in the process of developing a new hub of enterprise, art, culture and living in Manchester. This scheme will deliver wholesale regeneration while maintaining the heritage and key assets of the iconic Granada TV Studios site.

“Allied London is making a real difference to the city’s rise on the national and global stage, and we have developed a strong relationship with the team through collaboration on a series of key developments in Manchester, including No 1. Spinningfields and the XYZ building.”
