Major disruption as firefighters attack Seaforth blaze

A HUGE fire on Merseyside is continuing to cause major disruption.

Firefighters are warning residents and businesses to expect more smoke on fumes from the metal and plastic recycling facility at Seaforth docks which broke out on Friday evening (October 21).

Six fire engines and two aerial units were deployed to the facility.

The remaining scrap pile is now being dismantled by the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service using cranes and diggers.

A spokesperson said breaking the fire up would result in a “significant but temporary increase” in fire and smoke.

“The public should be aware there may be an increase in the smell of smoke and if so residents should stay inside and close windows and doors,” they said.

“Residents with pre-existing health conditions should keep medicine close.”
The fire service said crews were likely to be at the scene for a considerable time.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
