Young entrepreneur launches vitamin drink business after rugby injury

YOUNG entrepreneur Marcus Mollinga has set up new health drink brand Omegawater following his rehabilitation from a rugby injury.

With a provisional investment of just £24,850, he contributed the majority of the money to his venture personally, with a supplementary £5,850 investment from Boost Business Lancashire.

Currently in talks with some of the UK’s biggest health centres, food retailers and department stores, he hopes the product will be on shelves by early 2017.

Aside from British stores, he has already secured an exclusivity deal with Sweden and has signed contracts with Chinese and Japanese distributors.

Chief executive Mollinga damaged his knee cartilage whilst playing rugby for the Preston Grasshoppers and needed to take Omega 3 supplements to aid his recovery.

But he was not a fan of the vitamin capsules, claiming they gave him “fishy burps” and it was this distaste that gave him the idea for his new business venture.

Mollinga said: “I thought there would be another water on the market but there wasn’t.

“Encapsulating Omega 3 into water is really unusual.”

Omegawater uses unique encapsulating technology to lock in Omega 3 and eight vitamins into the drink, which is currently available in three flavours- mixed berry, pineapple coconut and pink grapefruit.

“Omega-3s as well as Vitamin A, D and E are incredibly hard to mix with water as they are insoluable”, he added.

The water contains 80mg of Omega-3, according to Mollinga, with the company also introducing Omega Squeeze which can be mixed into smoothies, shakes and cereals.
