How you can help shape a healthier Greater Manchester

Carl Williams, managing partner for Grant Thornton in the North West, says Greater Manchester has long been a hotbed for innovation, collaboration and commercial achievement.

THE beating heart of the Northern Powerhouse, the city is a magnet for investment from all over the world.

Closer to home, then ground-breaking £6bn health and social care devolution deal between Government and the city region offers huge opportunities for Greater Manchester to set a new agenda in healthcare.

Pioneering initiatives like Salford’s electronic patient healthcare record system, the cluster of exciting bio-medical companies based around Corridor Manchester, the city’s innovation district and worker-focused schemes to improve employees’ health, are fantastic news.

Sadly, health outcomes in some parts of Greater Manchester are significantly behind the national average and it is estimated the local economy would be several billions of pounds better off if the region’s population was healthier.

This is why, as part of our nationwide Vibrant Economy purpose, we’re hosting a major event to discuss how to create a healthier workforce.

Taking place on November 24 at The Point at Emirates Old Trafford, our Live Lab will bring together businesses, local government, healthcare, charity and academics to discuss how Greater Manchester and the wider region can address this fundamental issue.

We know that Greater Manchester has so many great things going for it – strong leadership, effective public-private partnerships and a diverse and robust business community – and we simply want to help deliver significant untapped potential here.Grant Thornton Logo NEW

The Live Lab will bring together stakeholders from across the city for what we are sure will be an interactive, collaborative and informative session.

We’ll be posing a number of challenging questions, including:

•    What if we better connected the public, private and not for profit sectors?

•    What at if a broader range of people committed to collectively improving health outcomes?

•    What if communities could reduce their demand on the NHS?

•    What if businesses increased the health & wellbeing of their employees?

•    What if best practice was showcased, replicated and accelerated?

•    What if technology companies found it easier to pilot health innovations?

If you would like to contribute to the debate and collaborate with the region’s innovators and leaders in health to drive positive change, then register here for the Live Lab.
