Town’s ‘Big Bang’ celebrations set to ignite

OLDHAM Council’s ‘Big Bang’ bonfire celebrations are returning for the fifth year – and the event promises to be the best yet.

Scenic Oldham Edge will once again host the free family-friendly event that will light up the skies above the town on Thursday November 3.

This year double British firework champions ‘Fantastic Fireworks’ will take centre stage with another masterclass in pyrotechnic performance choreographed to a carefully selected soundtrack.

The Oldham Edge site will open from 5pm, starting with a funfair and delicious food stalls, with the fiery fun starting from 6pm onwards.

Flame Oz will headline the stageshow with an unrivalled ‘glow show’ display followed by a high energy fire dance and juggling extravaganza.

Oldham’s own Juba do Leao are also returning with their Latin vibes and percussion to keep the audience dancing.

Elliot Eastwick, the popular local breakfast show DJ from our event partners Revolution 96.2, will be guiding you through proceedings as we head towards the grand finale.

Oldham Council is continuing the tradition of giving one lucky child the chance to push the button and launch the fireworks display that will be visible across every corner of the borough from 7pm onwards.

Cllr Jean Stretton, leader of Oldham Council, said: “This is the fifth year that we’ve held the Big Bang in Oldham and once again we’ve lined up another stunning array of entertainment.

“The event is absolutely free, fun and safe for families and we can’t think of a better way to mark Bonfire Night.

“More than 10,000 people attended last year and we’ve worked harder than ever to ensure this year will be another great success.”

All town centre car parks owned by Oldham Council will again be free of charge from 3pm on the day.

The event – which is the local authority’s largest annual celebration – aims to discourage smaller groups of people from holding unsupervised bonfires which can put extreme pressure on emergency services.

Oldham Council says plans are shared with Greater Manchester Police and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service to help maximise public safety.
