Plea for elves to help Christmas market shoppers

MANCHESTER Christmas Markets are searching for elves to spread Christmas cheer around this year’s festivities.

Following the success of last year’s elves, Manchester City Council is now seeking festive volunteers to help during the busy weekends.

The elves will be located around 10 different festive sites, to help direct shoppers navigate around more than 300 different stalls.

Cllr Pat Karney, Manchester’s Christmas spokesperson, said: “What else can we call our volunteers other than our Manchester Christmas elves? They will be on-hand across each of the market sites helping visitors and spreading festive spirit.

“You might have noticed that the city centre is undergoing some major works at the moment, but that won’t stop the Christmas Markets returning bigger and better than ever before.

“And that’s where our volunteers come in – making sure visitors know the best way to see each of the Christmas Market sites and make the best of their time in the city.”

All volunteers will also receive a limited edition Manchester Christmas Market mug and two shining stars will be invited for tea with the Lord Mayor.

For the event, an official trial map is available for download on Manchester City Council website, so no zones will be missed out.

This year’s markets will run from Thursday November 10 and Tuesday December 20, with volunteers being sought for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Friday November 18.

The stalls and bars will be open from 10am to 9pm daily.
