Airline and college celebrate launch of new routes

FASHIONISTAS at Manchester College’s fashion department are patiently awaiting news of the winner of Singapore Airlines design competition, which is announced later today (Monday October 31).

The airline asked 28 fashion students to design a bespoke garment which will mark two new Singapore Airlines routes from Manchester Airport.

The first of the new flights took off from Manchester yesterday to both Singapore and Houston, Texas.

The flights will depart from Singapore at 2.35am, stop off in Manchester and then continue on to Houston, returning the next day at 8.20am.

The competition was created by the firm to highlight this occasion and celebrate their ongoing involvement in the Manchester community.

The top five designs were released on Singapore Airlines’ Facebook page where members of the public could vote for their favourite.

Head of department, media and visual arts at Manchester College, Andrew Piper said: “Taking part in the Singapore Airlines competition has been hard work but enjoyable and worthwhile for all concerned.

“Our students have had an exceptional opportunity to flex their creativity, gain the attention and feedback of VIPs and have the realistic experience of working to a very demanding brief. I’d like to thank Singapore Airlines for the opportunity to show off the top flight work we’re doing here at The Manchester College.”
