Ex-Deloitte man becomes partner at BDO

ACCOUNTANCY and business advisory firm BDO has appointed former Deloitte indirect tax specialist Mark Ellis as partner at its Manchester office.

BDO says the appointment to the indirect tax practice demonstrates its strong commitment to attract the best talent from across the region, as it looks to grow the team and its client base over the next few years.

Ellis has 20 years’ experience working for the big four professional services frims in the North West, during which time he has gained a deep knowledge of the regional market, as well as a significant number of industry sectors and broad business issues.

The appointment follows the promotion of Stuart Wood to audit prtner in the business assurance practice.

Partner Ed Dwan, who is heading up the firm’s North West offices, said: “We are constantly looking to strengthen each and every element of our business, by bringing on board the very with key specialisms, while continuing to promote from within.

“Mark’s unquestionable knowledge and expertise reflects our firm commitment to the mid-market. This sector remains a powerful part of the UK economy, resulting in growing businesses requiring cost-effective, commercial and pragmatic advice, while large corporates and public interest entities (PIEs) seek a viable alternative to the ‘Big Four’.”

Ellis will work alongside a rapidly growing and highly experienced team of indirect tax experts from a variety of backgrounds, including HMRC, other firms and industry.

He said: “Not only is it a fantastic opportunity to be joining BDO North West under its new leadership, but it’s an excellent time to be practising as an indirect tax adviser.

“With increasing HMRC demands and regulatory restrictions being placed on businesses, together with a post-Brexit landscape that holds fresh challenges, the BDO indirect tax team is perfectly placed to help clients resolve issues, such as HMRC disputes quickly and efficiently.”
