Derelict Cheshire pub to be transformed into 10 homes

THE site of a pub which closed six years ago in Lymm in Cheshire is to be transformed into 10 new houses after it was acquired by developer Mulbury.

Mulbury has secured planning permission to the homes where the former Farmers Arms currently stands on Rush Green Road site.

The homes will be marketed by its residential housing division Mulbury Living.

The scheme will consist of eight detached four-bedroom family homes and two semi-detached two-bedroom properties arranged around a cul-de-sac. The two-bedroom homes will be offered at a discounted price to people with local connections.

David Wroe, head of Mulbury Living, said: “We’ve worked closely with the local planning team and have spoken to local people to bring forward a scheme that will breathe new life into this site in a way that’s sensitive to its village setting.

“The homes will complement other local properties and significantly enhance the street scene. We intend to preserve the ‘Farmers’ name within the development name to maintain that link with the site’s history.”

The Farmers Arms closed in late 2010. It briefly re-opened as an Italian restaurant but closed again soon after.

Mulbury plans to donate the pub signage, which depicts two farmers in conversation, to the Lymm Heritage Centre. The site had been owned by pub company Enterprise Inns.

Work on the new homes is expected to start in November with a proposed completion date of Autumn 2017.
